🚀 Software and Technology Pulse: March 7-10, 2025

💻 Major Software Revamps

Apple's Vision-Inspired Ecosystem Overhaul

Apple is preparing what Bloomberg describes as "one of the most dramatic software overhauls in the company's history," aiming to transform the interface of iPhones, iPads, and Macs (Business Insider, 2025). This comprehensive redesign will "fundamentally change the look of the operating systems and make Apple's various software platforms more consistent" (Business Insider, 2025).

The forthcoming changes are part of iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 (code-named "Luck") and macOS 16 (known as "Cheer"), representing the most significant upgrade to Mac since the Big Sur operating system in 2020 and the biggest iPhone revamp since iOS 7 in 2013 (Investing.com, 2025).

UK Invests £65M in Military Satellite Software

The United Kingdom has signed a £65 million ($83.69 million) five-year contract with CGI UK to develop Borealis, a command, control, and data-processing system that will enhance the military's ability to monitor and protect satellites (Space Insider, 2025). This UK-made system will provide software for the National Space Operations Centre, compiling and processing data from multiple sources more quickly to improve space domain awareness and protection of UK space assets (Space Insider, 2025).

Pentagon Overhauls Software Acquisition

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has mandated that all Department of Defense components adopt the Software Acquisition Pathway (SWP) for all software development. This shift acknowledges software's centrality in modern military systems and aims to accelerate innovation across defense technology platforms.

✈️ Military Aircraft Software Modernization

F-35 Fighter Jet Block 4 Updates

Lockheed Martin plans to begin rolling out early Block 4 capabilities to the F-35 this summer, according to Chauncey McIntosh, vice president and general manager of Lockheed's F-35 program (Defense News, 2025). The Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) software update will bring the aircraft closer to being combat-ready, with McIntosh noting that "our warfighters are going to see a much higher increase of stability in that software" (Defense News, 2025).

The Block 4 update will provide the F-35 with:

  • Improved sensors
  • Better sensor fusion
  • Expanded array of weapons capabilities (Defense News, 2025)

🚗 Self-Driving Breakthroughs

Wayve Expands Globally

UK-based autonomous driving startup Wayve is expanding globally, including a new testing and development hub in the Stuttgart region of Germany (Sifted, 2025). The company's CEO Alex Kendall stated, "2025 is a year of global expansion for Wayve," noting that "with its rich automotive heritage and deep engineering expertise, Germany is a perfect place to accelerate the development and deployment of AI-powered driving technology" (Sifted, 2025).

Founded in 2017, Wayve is building AI software and foundation models for autonomous driving, focusing on technology that allows vehicles to learn while driving rather than requiring precise road mapping (Sifted, 2025). This approach differentiates Wayve from competitors in the increasingly crowded autonomous vehicle market.

🏗️ Industry-Specific Innovations

Cyncly Launches Advanced Window & Door Software

Cyncly launched Soft Tech V6 Advantage on March 5, 2025, described as its "most advanced window and door configuration software ever" (Cyncly, 2025). This customer-driven release builds on the capabilities of Soft Tech V6, adding features that help manufacturers improve their estimation processes, strengthen dealer networks, and streamline manufacturing operations (Cyncly, 2025).

The software includes an overhauled user experience with enhanced aesthetics and functionality designed to:

  • Boost productivity
  • Allow users to customize functions according to their individual requirements
  • Improve reporting capabilities with both pre-configured and custom options (Cyncly, 2025)

AR Technology Revolutionizes Miner Safety Training

West Virginia University researcher Deniz Tuncay is developing an augmented reality training program to prepare workers to operate around high-risk vehicles in mining environments (My Buckhannon, 2025). This innovative training technology:

  • Projects blind spots directly onto the trainee operator's surroundings
  • Allows virtual interaction with mobile equipment
  • Enables practice responding to hazards in a controlled, risk-free setting (My Buckhannon, 2025)

This application represents the growing trend of leveraging immersive technologies for specialized training in high-risk industrial environments.
